Planner/Senior Planner

Paul Butler Associates JPG

Company: Paul Butler Associates

Salary: Competitive salary

Paul Butler Associates is one of the leading town planning practices in the North West.  Formed in 1992, we have a wide ranging and stimulating list of clients and projects split between the public and private sectors.

We are seeking a committed, commercially minded and ambitious planner / senior planner to support our continued growth.

We believe that planning is a stimulating and intellectually challenging profession.  We want someone who shares this view and can think creatively about the planning process and the business of planning.

Day-to-day work will partly be undertaken within the office and partly via home-working, with site visits and meetings to be attended as required. The majority of the Practice’s work is within the Northwest of England (and particularly Greater Manchester), but the firm does advise on projects throughout the UK. The company has embraced the use of virtual meetings, but also still values in-person contact and meetings, therefore work will primarily be a mixture of home and office working.

The role:

  • Preparing applications (including planning, listed building consent, advertisement consent) and undertake planning appeals for all types of projects.
  • Preparing and submitting documents required in support of a planning application; including Planning Statements, Heritage Statements and Statements of Community Involvement.
  • Providing quality professional planning, development and heritage advice.
  • Ability to work with a range of professionals within the planning and development sector.
  • Maintaining an up to date knowledge of market forces, changes to planning legislation and local and national policy.
  • Undertaking other office duties relevant to the post and business.

Person specification:

  • Full RTPI membership and a minimum of 3 years experience.
  • Experience in dealing with major development projects across multiple sectors.
  • A track record of negotiating complex applications through to approval and of delivering permissions on appeal will be essential.
  • An ability to lead on a variety of projects, provide a professional service to clients and secure new commissions.
  • Excellent written, presentation, communication and client care skills will be essential.
  • Full driving license and access to a car would be beneficial.

In return we can offer:

  • A competitive salary.
  • A pension, health and life assurance.
  • An opportunity for career progression.
  • A modern and attractive work environment in close proximity to Deansgate.
  • An opportunity to work on interesting and challenging development projects across the North West and beyond.
  • Reimbursement towards relevant professional development and memberships.
