Interesting Hotels buys in Kendal

The acquisition of the 58-bedroom Riverside Hotel marks the company’s first foray into the Lake District.

Oxfordshire-based Interesting Hotels also operates venues in North Wales, Shropshire, and Northamptonshire.

The Riverside Hotel is in the centre of Kendal next to Stramongate Bridge on the River Kent, close to the site of the town’s 12th-century castle.

Interesting Hotels bought the Kendal building from South Lakes Hotels bringing to an end a sales process that Colliers began in November 2019. The consultancy marketed the site for £5m guide initially, before slashing £500,000 off the guide in 2021.

Ulrike Le Roux, managing director of Interesting Hotels said Riverside, which features a health club, is a “good addition to the company’s portfolio”.

Jonathan Denby, owner of South Lakes Hotels said: “My congratulations to Interesting Hotels on their first Lake District purchase.

“They have established an excellent reputation in the hospitality sector, so I am confident that the Riverside Hotel is in good hands. The sale will enable me to bring forward my development plans for my remaining six Lake District hotels, about which, I’m very excited.”
